My default characterization for Sylar is based on Season 1 of Heroes (although I include background details from later episodes). I’m willing to play Sylar from different parts of the series (if we discuss it first), but otherwise, I’ll stick to the default.

If you aren’t familiar with Gabriel Gray/Sylar, here’s a quick overview of how I play him and his canon:

If you have an OC and would like to plot something with Sylar, please PM or reply to this post. I love interacting with OCs, especially well-developed OCs with bios etc.

Most Wanted

- OCs with superpowers. Sylar has the ability to understand how things work, and gains powers from others by cutting open their heads and studying their brains. This ability comes with the 'hunger' to acquire more powers this way, leading him to become a serial killer. SO, he definitely has motivation to meet characters with super powers; we'd just have to decide how we avoid the murder part going down.

- OCs with complicated family relationships. Sylar has a lot of issues with all of his parents. His biological father sold him and killed his biological mother. His adoptive father abandoned him. He had an unhealthy codependent relationship with his mother and accidentally killed her. They could relate to each other. Or be super unhealthy with each other. Either way.

- OCs who might want to help him acquire more powers. If you have a violent OC who doesn't mind gruesome murders and has an interest in seeing what Sylar's capable of, they could work together. However, it could obviously turn bad pretty quickly, so we might want to talk about it first.

- OCs who are kind and want to save him. It won't work, but he is always up for attempting a redemption arc. It probably won't end happily, though... He'd be particularly drawn to a parental figure, or someone seeking a parental figure.

- OCs who would capture and study him. It'd be nice and antagonistic, while also forcing them to interact. Fun!

- OCs who would get along with the more mild-mannered Gabriel Gray before he discovers his ability. I'm happy to play Gabriel instead of Sylar. He's a meek watchmaker who lives with his overbearing mother and dreams of being someone special.

- Literally any OCs. If our settings don't mesh well, I'm happy to talk about creating a 'verse that would work better.

The following is a list of canons I'm familiar with and would be willing, if necessary, to create a 'verse for Sylar so our characters can interact. I'm not caught up on all of these canons, but am willing to catch up if necessary.

NOTE THE FIRST: I am willing to create 'verses for original characters, especially horror or supernatural OCs.

NOTE THE SECOND: I will RP with characters from 'verses which aren't listed below. I'll just need to talk first and read a wiki or something~

Prompts

I put together a gigantic list of prompts to help me work on my Sylar voice. I'll be posting my responses to each prompt in comments to this post. Generally, I will use RNG to pick a prompt, but if you'd like to request one, please comment with the following:

Everything is optional except the prompt itself, of course. I will reply to your comment with a response to the prompt. You may post as many as you like, but please only include one prompt per comment. We don't have to have RPed together or know each other at all; if you just stumbled on this journal, you're free to reply with a prompt. (In fact, I'd be delighted!)

iamsylar: (gabriel working)
Gabriel has been trying to work for hours. He has a Longines that he'd said he would have back to its owner a week ago, but when he tries to work on it, his hands tremble.

A few feet away from where he's sitting, he killed a man. He put the body in a dumpster a few blocks down. The guy's family is probably out there somewhere wondering if he was still alive. Gabriel keeps expecting the police to show up. If they would just show up, he would tell them everything that happened.

Every time he hears a siren--which is often enough in Queens--he closes his eyes and waits for them to come to his door. Every time, the siren fades away, leaving him alone in his shop, trembling.

He takes a deep breath and holds his hands out in front of him until he can force them to be still. Finally, he once again tries to get to work.

Sylar was out of breath by the time he got back to his room in the mansion. It wasn't really his room, of course. He didn't own anything in it except what he kept in his duffel bag. He pulled everything he'd brought with him out of the bag until he found one of his books at the bottom. The collector's edition of Gray's Anatomy his mother had given him. The name had been a joke when he was a little boy, but it was more than that. He'd spent hours staring at the illustrations, memorizing every detail.

He sat on the bed cross legged, and opened it to a cross-section of the brain that he'd looked at a million times. A narrow pen that he'd used as a bookmark one late night was still clipped onto the page. He traced the image with his finger. He didn't even have to look at it.

He understood why Charles was afraid of him. Even if he'd hoped for a different outcome, he understood it.

Sylar picked up the pen and pressed the cap. He began to drag the nib along the outline of the image, not looking down at it. He didn't know when the simple outline turned to letters. Forgive me, forgive me. Like he'd written on the walls of his closet.

Only, when he wrote them there, he'd been asking God.

When the page was covered, he tore it out and began on the next page, then the next. When he had a stack, he got up from the bed and began lining the room with it. The floor, the desk, the bookcases.

Now, at least, it was beginning to look like his.

Sylar waited for Charles out by the old barn where he'd told him they'd meet. To work on his abilities, nothing else.

He wasn't about to let Charles know that he didn't really need help controlling his powers. He could do more with his telekinesis than Charles would want to know about, and now there was the ice. It was a simple power that he'd picked up while Charles had sent him away, but it could be useful.

The power at the base of it all, though. The only one he'd been born with... If it could be controlled, he didn't want to know how.
iamsylar: (gabriel predatory)
Gabriel looked down at the index card that Mohinder had given him, reading the names several again and again until they were imprinted on his memory.

What would happen when they found these people? What would they be able to do? The things that Chandra had written about were far more interesting than what Gabriel seemed capable of... at least so far. What would it be like to meet someone who could teleport or regenerate?

"Which one are we going to go to first?" he asked, tracing the names on the list with his index finger.
iamsylar: (gabriel look down)
Sylar's teeth were clenched tight as he stalked away from the workroom, leaving Charles behind. It hadn't gone as he'd planned, and he was frustrated enough that he wanted to use this new power of his to break things.

A thought occurred to him.

Erik couldn't be far, could he? He searched him out. Perhaps Erik could have his demonstration after all, and without Charles there to stop them.
iamsylar: (sylar metamorphosis)
It had been a lot like sliding his fingers over that car engine, except softer, more enthralling, and when he was finished he felt more alive than he ever had before.

He rolled the left-overs into a big plastic garbage bag and shoved it in a dumpster a few blocks from the shop. No one noticed him but a homeless man pissing in the corner of the alleyway, and he just laughed.

He didn't sleep that night. He slipped into his closet and sat in the dark all night. He drew on the walls, small letters at first, then bigger ones. He wrote out his guilt, so he could discard it. He would have to if he wanted to return to the mansion.

And he did. He just wasn't sure what he would do when he got there.

Today, he didn't bother to comb his hair carefully to one side and he didn't shave. He pulled on a rumpled sweater and left his glasses on the kitchen table. He arrived at the mansion in the early morning and waited for Charles, so anxious to see him again, to show him that he was more than a repairman, that he was chewing his lips raw.
